Yoga Nidra Classes

Yoga Nidra Classes

August 5,
September 2,
October 7,
November 4,
December 2

Yoga Nidra is the name of the deep relaxation led at the end of every yoga class.
This workshop with Heartsong's senior teacher Jane Anable will expand on the practice, giving you the chance to experience a powerful yoga technique for deep rest.

Yoga Nidra is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as yogic sleep or sleep of the yogis. It is an ancient tantric practice which systematically induces complete mental, physical, and emotional relaxation. We lie on our backs and systematically move our awareness to different parts of the body, practice specific breathing techniques, and use guided imagery. Through this process the subtle energy channels are completely revitalized. In this session, we will dedicate a short period of time to Sankalpa, which is intention. We will sow the seeds of change in the mind and create a deeply relaxing state in which those seeds may grow and create change in our lives. Yoga Nidra is helpful for stress reduction, insomnia, fatigue, depression and anxiety as well as general well-being.

$15.00 for all to drop in! Drop ins always welcome.

Meditation Group "Heartsong Sangha"

Meditation Group "Heartsong Sangha"
Brand new to Heartsong.
Tuesday night meditation group being developed!
Starts Tuesday, July 6.
Drop ins welcome.
6 to 7 pm.
Donations welcome, to complete the circle of giving and to support the space.

Eileen Santer, a long time Heartsong student and friend, has stepped up to be a leader of this new gathering for the practice of meditation and mindfulness. She would describe this as place to support and encourage the heart's song--what does the heart want? A place for anyone with or without experience, but yearning for a quiet place to be with others--a place of acceptance.

Eileen strongly believes that the heart takes an authentic individual path when given space and encouragement. For some people it's looking for less tension, for others looking for a deepening. She (and I) believe in the heart's process.

A little bit of teaching, a lot of practice, and even more support for all. All levels welcome. Visit Heartsong in for this peaceful practice, and a chance to listen to, and to trust, the heart...the true practice of meditation.

more about Eileen:
Eileen has been practicing meditation and studying meditation since the early 70's, attending 10-day retreats in Buddhism twice a year since the 90's at IMS in Barre and Garrison Institute in New York. She spent 15 years as a devotee of Adi Da. She has studied with Joseph Goldstein, Christina Feldman and Adyashanti among others. She enjoys typing and Twittering for Norman Scrimshaw, a New Hampshire teacher in non-duality. Her core teacher is Taraniya from IMS. Her favorite spiritual author is Joko Beck of the Zen tradition.

Mysore and a Movie
Ashtanga Mysore Practice followed by the movie 'Ashtanga, NY'
Sunday May 16th!!!
For Ashtanga Yoga practitioners who have a regular practice, instead of being verbally led through a yoga practice, it is a traditional way to 'self practice' with the energetic support of the others in the room and the hands-on assists by the teacher. (Sheila) Even if you do not think you 'know' the series, you can follow along and be quietly led and guided through the practice. It is a great way to really learn the series, and enjoy the full benefit of your 'meditation in motion' discovering that 'everything you need to know is already inside yourself!'

Doors will open for the movie at 4:00 pm, so all students my join us for the showing of the movie "Ashtanga NY" (no charge)

Ashtanga, NY, winner of Best Documentary, Indiefest, Chicago, August, 2003: For the month of September, 2001, New York City was to be Ashtanga Yoga Central, led by (the late) Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and devotees were arriving from all over the world. It was a rare opportunity to observe this subculture up close, en masse, over 1,000 students streaming to Soho at dawn, every day for 4 weeks, and the 87 year old Jois himself, on foreign shores.
The September 11th terrorist attacks changed New York irrevocably, and the meaning of this yoga gathering. In the difficult weeks that followed, Jois used the Ashtanga practice to help heal and fortify his diverse followers. Ashtanga, NY is a real look into the intersection of ancient practice and modern life, New York-style.

Next Mysore and Movie TBA
Mysore Ashtanga Yoga practice followed by the movie 'Guru' (the teacher who an take you on a journey of transformation, from darkness into the light) Film maker Robert Wilkins travelled to Mysore India for Sri K. Pattabhi Jois's 90th birthday celebrations in July 2005. This film is a never before seen insight into the life of (the late) yoga guru who passed this summer at the age of 94.

Yoga Reaches Out!

Save the date, for the first annual Yogathon to benefit Children's Hospital and Yoga for Single Moms, together with the Global Mala Boston.

Yoga Reaches Out
Sunday, September 19, 2010.

Gillette Stadium Field, Foxboro Mass
9 am to 5 pm.

"A Day to Remember, A Day to Make a Difference"

Yoga Reaches Out website, contact information, and more Click Here.

We hope to have a Western Mass presence at this event, and so this quick message is just as "save the date" and a chance for folks to begin to think about being a part of this really great effort to connect yoga studios, teachers and students from all over Massachsetts.

My vision (and it is quite grand) is that "we" charter a bus from the Western Mass area, (or several!!) and have as many studios participate in the effort to gather students. Right now I am (not super officially) the Western Mass contact and I have support from a few other studio owner friends in the valley who are interested in making this happen. We will have more details to follow, and look for any support or help that anyone has to offer!

I will not be able to do too much with this project until the end of July, (summer obligations with family!) but put the date on your calendars, begin thinking about it a bit, see if you are interested in helping out! I will be in touch!

Namaste,
Have a wonderful July!
