The Global Mala Event

Heartsong Yoga and the Local Yoga Community Host Global Mala
Yoga for Peace Event

Our first annual Global Yoga Mala was a complete success, with over 50 people of all levels of ability and practice coming together to enjoy 108 rounds of sun salutations!

We raised nearly $1000 for our local and international organizations and Tony took an entire truck load of food to the Open Pantry, estimates of over 300 pounds...more food than we collect between Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Thank you everyone!
We look forward to the 2009 Global Yoga Mala, which will be celebrated at the Autumnal Equinox once again, September, '09. Join us!

Next date TBA is the United Nations International Day of Peace and thousands of yoga teachers around the world will be hosting events to promote world peace and raise funds for their chosen charities.

The suggested donation for this three-hour event is $27.00, plus a generous donation of food items for the Food Pantry. All proceeds will go to support the compassionate local work of the Gray House, Maryanne's Kids, and the Food Pantry, and the international work of the Siddhartha School Project in Ladak, India.

the 2008 event was co hosted by Sheila Magalhaes of Heartsong Yoga, Stacey Duquette and Amy Gainer of Kali Yoga, and Kate Forest, Life Wellness Connections. Sheila, Kate, Stacey, and Amy sharied their love of yoga with the community by co-teaching 108 rounds of Yoga's Sun Salutations series, a challenging series of postures that will raise healing heat, calm the mind, and promote inner-peace.

Kate Forest taught the series with Self Care modifications so people of all levels and abilities can take part in this day of peace, including those in wheelchairs, and those new to yoga.

The day opened with a demonstration of the postures and participants could choose to practice the more challenging series or the gentler version and rest as needed. The Sun Salutations were followed by a few moments of quiet resting and then Stacey led a World Beat Dance celebration set to music from around the Earth.

Light refreshments were provided by Kathleen Delaney of Great Grapes Catering, Panera Bread, Big Y and Soy Joy.
