Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. To be mindful is to be truly alive, present, and at one with those around you and with what you are doing. In learning mindfulness meditation, we bring the body and mind into harmony while washing dishes, driving the car, or taking a morning shower. With the support of a community to practice with, we can cultivate peace and joy within and around us, as a gift for all of those for whom we love and care.
Meditation builds concentration, focus and awareness. It helps you to be more alert and alive in the present moment. Meditation centers you. It allows you to feel more grounded and less impulsive. Meditation calms the body and quiets the mind. It allows you to see yourself and others with compassion, understanding and loving-kindness. Research shows Meditation decreases respiratory rates and lowers oxygen consumption. It can increase blood flow and slow the heart rate, bringing the B.P. to more normal levels. It also lowers the levels of blood lactate which helps reduce anxiety attacks. Meditation leads to a deeper states of relaxation. It can decrease overall muscle tension and the pain due to tension.
