November's News

This is our season for "giving back" to the community, and our celebration of 14 years of service through the practice of yoga, meditation, and mindful living!

We will be collecting non perishable and canned food items for the Open Pantry several times over the Holiday season. Goods that are always on demand include tuna fish, rice, dried beans, stews, dried milk, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, pasta, soups, jellies, canned fruit and canned vegetables. Can we top last year's donations over 325 pounds of food that we gathered between November and January?

Look for our "Will Teach Yoga for Food" events including:
Free Intro classes for Kripalu and Astanga Yoga next week,
Our Annual Thanksgiving Morning 9 am Kripalu All Levels Class,
New Year's Day Astanga and Kripalu Yoga classes in the afternoon.

All "Free" with your generous food item donation for the Open Pantry.

Thank You... to everyone who attended our evening with Khen Rinpoche, the Tibetan Monk from India. We raised nearly $300 for his school, and you can still donate this month if you would like, details are on his website Click Here

  • Yoga Nidra
    November 1, 7:30 to 9:00 pm

Join Heartsong's Jane Anable for an evening of Yoga Nidra, or Deep Yogic Rest, on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm.

Walk ins are welcome, $20.00 at the door, but if you pre register and pre pay, you can enjoy the class for $18.00. No experience is necessary, this is a great class to bring along a loved one to share your passion for yoga, however, Yoga Nidra is a practice and a process, so coming in once a month for a Yoga Nidra "Tune Up" is highly recommended.

Yoga Nidra is a dynamic meditative process that has been passed down to us through the centuries from the ancient yogic masters. It is designed to establish harmony and well being throughout the entire system, reducing the physical and mental tensions brought about by modern day living.

Yoga Nidra induces physical relaxation by moving awareness around the body, with attention drawn to the breath. The slower and deeper the respiration, the more relaxed the practitioner becomes. Emotional relaxation is achieved by developing a state of mind where various feelings and thoughts are brought to the surface, and then breathed away, and the mind begins to quiet down and feel more settled and at ease. Healing images and suggestions are brought in, along with positive affirmations and calming tranquil images. Although it seems as though this practice is "just a long winter's nap" the body is deeply relaxed and the mind and thoughts are quiet, but the practitioner is fully awake on an internal level.

Propped on cushions and bolsters, covered by blankets and resting on the carpeted floor, with an eye pillow over the eyes and the soothing restorative words from Jane, in the company of other seekers of relaxation, healing and ease, it is no wonder that this class is always a sell out at Heartsong Yoga each month.

Enjoy her light-hearted and fun style with plenty of adjustments and modifications.

After a short break, (bring water and snacks) the second half of the day will begin with time for Q&A on the practices, the philosophy, and the importance of developing and maintaining a personal practice, and then Christine will focus on basic principles of Ayurveda, the ancient science of self-healing, and how they can support your health and well-being.

Sunday's class will be a "full on" second series class, focusing on the back bending and deeper twists of "nadi shodhana" or the "nerve cleansing practice." Pre requisites: You are a strong practitioner of any tradition and you took the Saturday day long workshop with Christine, or, you know the primary series of astanga yoga already and are ready to explore the second series.
