Yoga off the Mat, The Deeper Practices

Yoga off the Mat, The Deeper Practices
Greetings to all our yoga friends in this first week of March! Hoping that the snow days of the New Year will be but a distant memory and that spring is really on the way! Are you ready to head into the season of renewal, growth and transformation? We would like to offer you some inspiration.

Around 200 BC, a mysterious sage named Patanjali described meditative disciplines and ethical teachings known as Raja Yoga, or the "royal" road to liberation. His description of the "8 Limb Path" begins with the Yamas and the Niyamas, or the ethical precepts and practices. The Yamas are translated as non violence, truthfulness, non stealing, moderation, and non attachment.

How do these ancient teachings translate into our everyday 21st century lives? They say: don't cause injury...no grasping for anything other than what "is" in the moment...be mindful of effort and energy...let go of the physical results of your practice...and so much more.

Come to Heartsong this spring, to explore these "deeper practices" of yoga.
We are proud to host Heartsong Teachers, as well as guest presenters from the Kripalu and Ashtanga/Krishnamachyria traditions. Join us for an afternoon, evening, day or weekend to learn more!

Heartsong Yoga...a peaceful practice in a peaceful place!

Restorative Yoga, instead of Nidra, this Thursday!

Restorative Yoga, instead of Nidra, this Thursday!
This Thursday Night, March 3, 7:30 pm

Because yoga helps reacquaint us with our emotional and physical needs, it provides an excellent means of stress prevention. It can help us to handle the demands of the day from a place of strength and optimism. While all our yoga practices will ease anxiety and help promote an overall sense of balance, restorative poses are particularly suited for stress reduction. Resting on blankets, cushions and pillows, and taking deep rest as you settle into the comfort of the props, helps to quiet and calm the brain as you gently stretch and relax the body.

Usually we host Jane's amazing Yoga Nidra on the first Thursday of every month, she is away, so Sheila is bringing us Restorative Yoga this week! She would love to see the Nidra "regulars" as well as anyone yearning for a quiet evening of reflection, rest, and renewal. So gentle, so sweet!

Drop ins welcome, $15. per person, absolutely no experience needed!

Ashtanga Yoga: More Research! Practice & Philosophy

Ashtanga Yoga: More Research! Practice & Philosophy
Ashtanga Yoga Practice Day this Sunday, March 6
with Sheila Magalhaes
11 to 2:00
$35.00

We call this class "More Research" as it is a chance to stretch out our regular 1.5 hour class to 3 hours, so we can stop, explore, ask questions, and then move into the philosophy and awareness of "why we practice." It will be a journey through the most of the Primary Series, moving into Second Series to begin therapeutic backbending and twists in a slow and thoughtful way. We will explore the Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, reading and from several different translations. Meditation, pranayama, and deep relaxation will fill out the afternoon's practice. Anyone who enjoys a strong physical practice, of all levels, is welcome to join us. (a light snack is a good idea if you come to practice with an empty belly, you will need a little something after class!)
