What to Wear For the most enjoyable experience at Heartsong Yoga, wear modest comfortable clothing. Stretchy pants, sweats, and tees are fine. For Astanga yoga, shorts and tank tops are better, these classes are hot! Yoga is traditionally done in bare feet, although some people prefer to wear socks. There are also rest rooms where you can change clothes if necessary.
No Scent Policy Please do not use perfumes or essential oils as students can be very sensitive to scents and can not tolerate them in classes. This goes for hair products, body lotions, even deoderant!Smokers should be mindful of the lingering smoke on their clothing and should not smoke before classes.
Props and Materials We provide eye pillows, blankets for relaxation, meditation cushions, and straps. We also have a limited number of sticky mats for students to use for their first few visits. They are not needed in beginner Kripalu Yoga courses, but Astanga yoga students should own their own sticky mats. Many of these items are available for purchase at the studio.
Food and Drink Eat lightly or not at all before class. Come fully hydrated to an Astanga yoga class, as it is suggested that you refrain from drinking water during the class.
Class Etiquette Be on time. Arrive ten minutes before class begins. If you come to class late, please quietly settle in. Keep conversations during class to a minimum. If you have to leave early, stay in the back of the room during the class.
There are no childcare facilities at Heartsong Yoga, as the classes are designed for adults, high school aged and above. Younger children are invited to only attend our specialty YogaKids classes whenever they are offered.
No Cell Phones Please! Turn off all cell phones, beeping watches etc. before coming in to class.
If you have questions about a specific health condition, please speak to your instructor before each class as you meet new teachers. Listen to your body, and never force or strain during your practice.
