Ashtanga Yoga w/ Christine Hoar

Date: April 30th, 2016 (2 days) .

Ashtanga Practice & Philosophy Immersion with Christine Hoar Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1 11 to 3 each day. (bring a light bagged lunch) We are proud to present our friend and teacher Christine Hoar for a weekend of exploration and practice in the Ashtanga Yoga methodology. As the founder and director of Ashtanga Montauk in New York and Vermont's former Bristol Yoga, Christine brings a gentle, compassionate, light-hearted, yet powerful hands-on approach to Ashtanga Yoga. She is blessed and authorized to teach by her guru, the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India, where she regularly returns for study. Each day will begin with a strong asana (yoga) practice, and will be followed by a short break, with time for a light lunch. Then Christine will lead a discussion about Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the foundation of the philosophy of classical yoga, compiled around 400 CE. On Saturday we will explore Chapter One, on Sunday, Chapter two, to learn more about how these ancient and timeless teachings called the "8 Limbed Path of Yoga" can inform our daily practices, both on the mat and out in the world. There will be time each afternoon to enjoy a conversation with Christine, who will share her inspiration, wisdom and experience with story telling and Q & A. Saturday, April 30, 2016: Led Primary Series The Primary Series (yoga chikitsa) serves as the very foundation for our physical practice, our sadhana. This Ashtanga system is an intelligently designed sequence of postures that offers each of us the opportunity to detoxify, purify, and strengthen the body. The Primary Series in particular aims to create neuromuscular alignment and strength and to begin to cleanse the organs. Open to all students who enjoy a strong physical practice. Sunday, May 1, 2106: Led Primary/Second Series On Sunday’s asana class, we will move beyond the Primary Series to explore some of the back bending sequence of the Intermediate Series (nadi shodana). Extension of the spine is an important, and is often a neglected component of asana practice. This class is appropriate for all levels of ashtanga practitioners, even if they have not "completed" primary series at this point. Price for the weekend workshop Pre Register, on line below, or at the studio: $175. Single Day Saturday or Sunday: $100.
