It is Heartsong Yoga's 30th Anniversary this fall, and this event kicks off the celebration!
Joyful Mantra Music Concert
with New Orleans' Seán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band
....the band features vocalist/lyricist/harmonium player Seán Johnson; Alvin Young on six-string fretless bass and electric guitar; percussionist/vocalist Gwendolyn Colman; Narada Wise on drums; and Chris Rosser, on the Indian dotar, Turkish cumbus oud, keys, guitar, and bass.
Their music merges conscious lyrics, sacred chants from the spiritual traditions of yoga and beyond, and roots, rock, gospel, and global grooves. They are known for creating interactive, soul-stirring songs to dance and sing along with as well as to grieve and heal. Their style of cross-cultural spiritual music is filtered through the depth, sincerity, and soul of their own American and ancestral roots, including the soulful sounds of a Celtic vibe. Some may choose to sit and listen, but others may want to get up and dance! (we dare you not to)

Heartsong Yoga is thrilled to have Seán visit Western MA, a dream of Sheila's from the first time she studied with him and met his bandmates at Kripalu Center many years ago. Having the "UUSGS" is the icing on the cake...lots of space, fabulous acoustics, plenty of parking, and close to everything....
Another community connection is that Pour Things Coffee Truck will be joining us for the celebration, with specialty coffees and delicious treats for sale throughout the event.
More about the Band
Seán founded the band in 2005 as a post-hurricane Katrina philanthropic music project, raising funds across the country for relief from the devastation of the storm. The theme of searching for grace and inspiration amidst challenge and destruction has permeated their music ever since.
In 2007, they released their first album, ‘Calling The Spirits’ which caught the ears of pioneering Canadian record producer Terry McBride, founder of Nettwerk Records and Lilith Fair. McBride signed the band to Nettwerk for the release of their follow-up album, ‘Devaloka.’ When Putumayo World Music founder, Dan Storper heard ‘Devaloka,’ he chose music off the record to be featured on Putumayo’s first compilation of music designed for yoga. Inclusion on three Putumayo albums has helped propel the band’s music to listeners across the globe. Their last album ‘Unity’ debuted #1 on the iTunes World Music Chart and #3 on Billboard. Their new album Mystery was just released on Be Still Records, and was named one of the best 50 albums released by Louisiana musicians this year by Offbeat Magazine. They are a favorite headliner at conscious music festivals across the U.S. and have played The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on multiple occasions.

Why we love them
Heartsong’s founder and director Sheila Magalhaes had the beautiful gift of studying an interdisciplinary teacher training program facilitated by Seán Johnson and Mitchel Bleier during the pandemic, when their Soul School was offered on line. This experience was a wonderful transformational experience for Sheila during that difficult time, the opportunity to be a student, continue her education, and her first time diving into Bhakti Yoga, or the yoga of devotion, music, poetry and prayer. Her “Soul Flow" and "Slow Flow” classes are influenced by her work with Seán and she is super excited to bring him and the band to Western Mass to share their Bhakti Love.
